Frank Olivo

Free drink for you at Buzzy’s Country Store if you know who Frank is or was. (No googling allowed.)

I thought of Frank the other day when this story appeared about the Toronto Raptors fans cheering because Warriors’ Kevin Durant tore his achilles and had to leave the game.

Actually, I didn’t really think of Frank per se because while I knew the story about him, I did not know him by his name.  Here’s a clue for you to try and guess who he was a la bad sports fans – Santa Claus.

You should have it by now.  However, if you are still uncertain here is the big Frank reveal.

Whenever the conversation in Buzzy’s turns to lousy sports fans, someone will inevitably chime in with a variation of the following “Well, how about those Philadelphia Eagles’ fans?  They even once booed Santa Claus and threw snow balls at him!”

Yep, Frank Olivo was the fella who was dressed in the Santa suit and when he walked across the field in Philly, he got booed and had the snowballs thrown at him.  For a great story on Frank and how he ended up becoming so famous that day (click here.)  Also, there is this video on him:

Frank died at the age of 66 in 2015 and yes, the first line in his obit noted that he was the infamous Santa who got booed by the Philly fans (click here.).
