William Tell – Over to You

Brainy Quotes

On a bus back to our hotel after a day of touring the Swiss countryside, we passed thru some little town that our tour guide noted had a connection with William Tell.  She then told us  about Tell and how his legend came to be.

Somewhere in Switzerland

Because I know you don’t drop into the Buzzy blog for history lessons, I’ll spare you the details about William and him supposedly shooting that apple off his son’s head.  (I say supposedly because there seems to be a lot of doubt as to whether Tell really existed and if he did whether or not the cross bow apple story is true.  If you are in any way curious about this, you can learn more by  clicking here.)  Also, I found this NPR story that explains the opera and how it became so famous (click here.)

Of more interest to me however is how the William Tell Overture became the Lone Ranger’s theme song.  I found this background on it (click here.)

Too, I found this video of Glen picking his way through it on guitar.  Watch this and it should get your motor running but then again I admit that it’s hard to “tell” what does and doesn’t move people.
