On this day in 1823 the Angel Moroni appeared to Mormon founder Joseph Smith and presented him with the golden plates which would eventually become the Book Of Mormon.
The Joseph Smith story is a fascinating one of how he started the new religion and ultimately died a martyr after being shot by a mob (click here.) As religions go however, the founding of Mormonism is oftentimes considered much crazier than that of any of the 5 recognized “Great Religions.” Yet, leave it to Bill Maher to suss things out up Mormon-wise.
