Mom and the Ex

Speaking of Mom and the holidays (previous post) I found this article in  a folded up copy of a 1988 Enterprise that Buzzy had stashed in his old newspaper collection.

I enlarged it some to make it easier for you to read.  Note that when Mom refers to “the oldest” pounding up the stairs, that would be me up early even back then.  The “Cousin Bill” she mentions later in the article would be Bill Raley.  (I’ve also hi-lited what I think was her best line and advice when she talks about about “letting go of the past and savoring the present.”)

Whenever I pick up one of these old copies of the Enterprise that Buzzy retained, I also scan the rest of the paper to see what else was being written about back then.

Imagine my surprise then when I opened up the page to find this photo appearing right above my Mom’s article:

Yep, that’s my son Brady and his Mom who served as the Second District coordinator for rounding up toys as part the County’s annual toy drive. How’s that for a coincidence?

This great Hollies’ tune (below) was supposedly written about Marianne Faithful but Graham Nash said he was too shy to mention her by name so he changed it to say Carrie Anne.

And since it is Twofer Tuesday, note that the flip side of this 45 featured another great Hollies’ song Bus Stop.  I guess that there is a metaphor to be made somewhere in these two songs about women who come and women who go, but I don’t have the energy to suss it all out this early in my day.  Come back tomorrow and I’ll try again.
