Souvenirs: A Word I Know How to Spell

January marks the unofficial start of tourist season for me.  I say unofficial because now is the time of year I start to order the hats, shirts, souvenirs and tchotchkes for the official Memorial Day start of the season.  (Please note that spell check suggested I spell tchotchke like I did because I thought  chotskies was how it was written.)

After several years of ordering items like this, I have the hats and shirts routine down such that it doesn’t take me much time and effort to place those orders.  As for the souvenirs and chotskies it’s a little more involved because each season there are new items to check out.  For instance, the last couple of seasons the Maryland flag has been a popular item on the souvenir circuit not only for standard souvenir items like decals and magnets but on just about everything ranging from Christmas ornaments to scarves as seen here:

Which leads me to conclude – put a Maryland flag on it and you can sell it.

Regarding the purchase of magnets, I am having problems re-ordering the Buzzy Redneck American Gothic magnet that has been a popular item for me in the Store:

It seems that the company I have dealt with previously no longer has this one in stock.  I tried plowing through the internet searching for similar Redneck Gothic Magnets and well lets just say I found everything but what I was looking for.  Samples follow and yes these are actual magnets that one can purchase:

Think I’ll continue to look for the Buzzy magnet above.

Weird Al knew how to correctly spell tchotchke (2:03 mark) when he used it in this video (click here and go to 2:03 mark.)  I have included another video version of the song because it’s a little funnier.  Be sure to catch the $ reference at the 2:03 mark. (May have to play that number 203 in the lottery today!)
