WARNING: Reading further may result in you wasting a lot of your time trying to see just how this trick was done. To save you from trying and failing to figure it out by watching the video over and over just click here for an explanation of how it was done.
A final Cheers-related item for you. Here is the video of their now famous beer slide scene that Sam and Cliff “pulled” off as follows:
Turns out that the scene was part of one of Cheers’ more critically acclaimed episodes: Endless Slumper (click here for related article.) The author of this review discusses what an outstanding episode this was mostly due to the interplay between Sam and Diane and the climatic scene at the end where Sam resists the temptation to start drinking again. The author also quotes the great line “Life is the shit that happens while you wait for moments that never come.” This is sort of a profane version of John Lennon’s “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”
P.S. You can find Cheers reruns on Prime and go to Season 1 Episode 10 to watch this particular episode. It doesn’t matter though how many times you watch it, you still won’t be able to suss out how they did the beer slide trick. If you do so, please let me know. (I think there is something plastic-like appearing on the bar at the :24 mark.)
Now that Buzzy’s has its slick new bar top re-done thanks to JW, I may have to start figuring out how to slide a beer or two around on its surface doing 90° turns. On second thought I’ve probably wasted way too much time on this entire matter; you know, the shit you do when you should be doing other shit!
