First off I saw this great photo taken by Jonathan Newton  in today’s Washington Post  edition.  (Note how the caption mentions the gathering storm clouds that brought all of this rain our way last night.)    

It then made me think of the classic political cartoon of Lincoln crying in his chair in the Memorial.  After some searching I found that it was done by Bill Mauldin following Kennedy’s assassination:

Mauldin’s bio is worth a read particularly the part where, after he had penned a Stars and Stripes cartoon that General Patton didn’t care for, Patton wanted to “throw his ass in jail.”  Fortunately, Eisenhower overruled Patton who then had a little sit down “talk” with Mauldin.  (For the rest of that funny story and to see the cartoon that pissed off Patton (click here.)
