Forecasted temps for the week ahead show some very nice days and zero freezing nights. This will take us out of February and into March. I always feel like winter is over once we make it to St. Paddy’s Day on March 17th. It can still be cold and nasty but at least we know there is a light at the end of the winter tunnel.
In Buzzy’s Country Store whenever the talk turns to weather, someone will invariably cite and quote JB Weather. Whereas it used to be Topper or Doug Hill or Bob Ryan for us old farts, JB is now the go-to source for things weather-related. The following is from JB’s FB page (click here.)
My mention of Bob Ryan made me think of how he would always quote Floyd Abell of Hollywood Maryland as one of his weather watchers. Back in the day I would always try to catch Channel 4’s 11 o’clock news and Bob’s forecast for the next day. Whenever he would mention “Floyd from Hollywood” it made me smile a little that a local guy was referenced on the news. (The John Cougar line “Still hayseed enough to say look who’s in the big town” line comes to mind.)

When it comes to South County weather, Tommy Courtney has also kept weather records for a number of years. When discussions and forecasts of future weather came up in Buzzy’s, I would ask Bob Mann “What did Tommy say?” And he would give me Tommy’s prediction which was always spot on. Maybe Tommy should start a TC Weather page.
