Whenever one of my kids has a big birthday, defined as one with a 0 or a 5 at the end of it, I am reminded of something my Mom would always say to me on my milestone birthdays: “I can’t believe that you are this old; but then again again, I can’t believe that I am this old.”
Those words ring especially true today as I wish my youngest son Shea a very Happy 40th!
To that I can only add that one is never too old to continue making mistakes. However, the trick in life is to try and NOT continue to make the same mistakes repeatedly.
Here then is a tune to and for all of us as we wind on down the road of life. What’s the saying “Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is oprional.”
