Get the H Out (Subtitle – Sister Gregory, We May Need a Hand Here)

In yesterday’s St. Nicholas post I had to smile when reading the following in the Tester article I cited:

The “an heroic” description caught my attention because I had just finished reading an extended discussion of whether or not to use “a” or “an” before words beginning with the letter h.

The exchange went down in a Style Invitational FB post discussion on whether one should say “an homage” or “a homage” (try clicking here but you may have to be a member of the page to read all of it.) Here is a sampling of some of the 60+ comments folks made in response to Roy’s request for grammaritcal assistance:

An here then is a song for you. (See what I did there?) Please note that while I am not sure if this is “a” horrible example, or if it is “an” horrible example of what is being discussed here, I am definitely certain that this is a pretty bad tune. (I punched out at the first refrain.) Song-wise, I promise to do better next time.
