The Last Wright

A few days ago I mentioned the tune “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.” As I did so, it made me curious about who wrote it and what inspired it. This is what I found on Wiki:

Seeing that the Park Inn Hotel in Mason City, Iowa was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, led me to learn of the long, and winding road that it has endured since its completion in 1910.

During his career Wright designed 6 hotels and 5 of them are no longer around. The Park Inn is the last surviving Wright hotel and has been dubbed The Last Wright. This also from Wiki:

Check out this video that does a nice job describing the efforts to restore the Park Inn.

You can also get a good look at the interiors of the hotel and bank that are currently occupying the space(s) in the video below. I’ve included it because it has some interesting musical accompaniment. (I am not sure about the first few minutes of music here, but at the 1:39 and 4:04 marks are a couple tunes from Ashutosh titled Inspire (click here.) and Mumbai (click here.))

Too, it made me think of our First National Bank building in Leonardtown. It was also built in the early 1900’s. I found the following on Massey’s “You Know You Are From St. Mary’s FB page courtesy of my friend Billy Fitzgerald.

Guess you can say that this Buzzyblog post has gone from the last to the first.
