There are several lists out there on the www for you to review listing the “Worst Christmas Songs.” No surprise that pretty much the same tunes end up at the top of most of these listings. Santa Baby, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and Dominick the Donkey all seem to be at or near the top of the worst lists. (Don’t feel bad if you don’t recognize Dominick because I’d never heard of it either. If you are curious what it sounds like click here and you’ll find out just how bad it is.)
Notably absent from most of the worst lists that I surveyed are my nominees for the worst Christmas song(s) such as All I Want is a Hippopotumus, the Barking Dogs and anything by Alvin and the Chipmunks. Yougov did a good survey afew years back that showed even though a huge percentage of folks may have stated that they disliked a given song, over twice as many said that they like it:
Another semi-surprise to me was how much folks did not care for I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa which I always kinda liked despite SNL trying to ruin it for me here. (Consider yourself forewarned that after seeing this, you will never hear this song again without being a little creeped out about it. Now that I say that, maybe it should be near the top of the worst list after all!)
