Welcome Back Carlos

Mentioning Santana Moss in yesterday’s post got me thinking about that other guy named Santana as in Carlos.

Last I recalled hearing about him was his collapsing onstage during a performance in 2022 (click here.) It made me worry about him and his health.

Well, seems that Carlos has made a quick and full recovery and in 2023 did a residency gig in Vegas appearing at the House of Blues (see video here from one of those shows.)

This year Carlos is also scheduled to appear in Vegas again in May and fall (click here.) Then, come the first of June he is hitting the road and will be touring with the Counting Crows (click here.)

Through the years Carlos has become known for his “Collaborations tunes” where he features a singer and does his thing instrumentally. I remember reading a review of one of these efforts with the critic saying something along the lines “Carlos has it figured out – nab a hot singer, let him or her do their thing, slap some Santana guitar solos behind them and presto – a hit record.”

Leave it to Carlos then to make a rap song that you can actually listen to and enjoy. (I know, that’s a cheap shot at rap, but cut me some slack here because when it comes to rap music I have what is called a “proportional relationship” with it – a little goes a very long way.) Note too, Carlos is playing one of his signature PRS guitars made by Maryland boy Paul Reed Smith Guitar. (For previous Buzzyblog post on Paul and him attending St. Mary’s College in the 70’s (click here.) To read about Paul receiving a couple of honorary awards (click here.))

Little tip – drop in at the 3:08mark to catch Carlos ripping it like, well like Carlos Santana.

At Buzzy’s Country Store today and tomorrow we’ll have the beer cold and the Irish music cranked up. You won’t hear any Santana solos; but the music and a couple beers will get you in the mood for all that corned beef and cabbage you need to consume tomorrow. (Is this the only day of the year that you eat corned beef and cabbage?)
