I mentioned Amos Arthur Holmes the other day and his writing for the local papers for a number of years (click here.) I landed on the following article that he wrote as “Kilroy Was Here” in a 1979 edition of the Enterprise (click here.) (Amos also wrote a second article in this edition titled “The Bear Facts.” It appears immediately above the Legion story and he discusses various volunteer firemen in the County. Ridge Company 4 reps mentioned include Linus Gatton, John Fenwick and Phil Cooper. To check it out click here.))

I never knew that Stubs’ first name was Roderick. (It was also his son Steve’s middle name (click here.))

Pam and I are headed out to San Antonio, Texas this week to attend Grandson Shawn’s graduation from Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base. Here then is a Texas tune to get me in the mood for a visit to the Lone Star State. (Note that we have an early morning 5 a.m. direct flight back home Friday morning. If everything goes smoothly, my plan is to be back in Piney Point by noon. Just doesn’t have the same resonance as being in Amarillo by morning does it?
