Total Eclip$e

Maybe it is because I got some Buddhist blood in me somewhere that the designation “Path of totality” appeals to me. (Then again, the fact that I reside somewhere that the POT is not going to encompass us, may or may not be trying to tell me something!)

All sorts of stories are being spun about the upcoming eclipse including the following from some Maryland-based travel friends of ours.

They had made plans several months ago to visit family and friends who happen to reside in the path of the eclipse. Their plans were to spend some time catching up with the family and obtw, check out the eclipse as it occurred. Unfortunately, here is what happened to our friends just a few days ago:

Obviously, the Airbnb owners elected to make a quick hit on the popularity of the eclipse and canceled our friends accordingly. Guess you could say that the BnB owners were in the “path of opportunity.” As someone once said, the answer to everything is money and a case could be made that the BnB owners were just seizing their opportunity when they had it. However, still, it all seems a little chicken shit to me for the BnBers to have reneged (can you still use that word?) like they did.

But to tell the truth, eclipse or no, path of totality notwithstanding, I really don’t care about not seeing the sun. Quite the opposite really, in that these past couple of rainy/cloudy days I feel like I haven’t seen it at all. Miss my old sunshine friend.

Reminds me of the saying “Positive people carry their own sunshine.” And while I do try to proceed with that maxim in mind, there are some days where I’m just not into being all that positive.

But back to the eclipse, this song has been running thru my mind ever since all this eclipse stuff began to be a thing. See if you can tell why? (Answer is below.)

Supposedly it was Warren Beatty who flew to Nova Scotia. Doubt that he had any problems staying in a BnB when he was there.
