Alcohol Beverage Board Meeting 7/11/24

St. Mary’s County Alcohol Beverage Board meets monthly to cover a number of topics related to the buying and selling of alcoholic beverages. Their July meeting is a good example of subject matter(s) that they address (video below.)

I know you don’t want to waste time viewing the entire 2 hour meeting, but I’ll point out 3 subjects that were covered by the Board – violations (3:00 mark), new permits/licenses (46:00 mark) and enforcement/inspection efforts (1:00:46.)

Regarding approval/review of new license applications, the discussion at the 46:00 mark in the video concerns a new application for a liquor store proposed in the First Colony Shopping Center that currently has the Target and Giant Food Stores business (among others.) (As you listen to comments from various folks catch Mr. Kemp’s at the 1:21:49 mark.)

It provides a good discussion of how many liquor licenses are considered enough for any one given area in the County. The Board ultimately approved the application (1:00:38 mark.) Note that at the 1:00:45 mark there was a continued discussion about the issuance of liquor licenses based on population density in a given area.

Caught a good Keith Urban interview on a Conan O’Brien Podcast the other day. Keith’s another of those long-time-in-the-music-business guys who has consistently generated good stuff and yet has flown somewhat below the radar while doing so. It’s kinda how I want Buzzy’s Country Store to roll – good stuff and below the radar!

OK, I just learned that “Somebody Like You” was rated Country Music Song of the decade by Billboard in 2009. Maybe he’s not as under-the-radar as I had thought!
