Today being Twofer Tuesday, let’s talk some baseball as in MLB teams currently being at the 100 games played point of the 2024 season, and teams that throughout baseball history who have won a 100 games in one season. (Got all that hundredology? Hang with me and I promise to be more succinct than that opening sentence was.)
Currently, at the 100 games played mark, only two MLB teams are playing above .600 – the Phillies and the Orioles. However, three others are not too far off of that pace: the Dodgers (.594), the surprising Guardians (.596) and the Yankees (.588) who are only 1.5 games behind the O’s. (For a good article on how tight pennant races the rest of this season may influence teams as they approach the upcoming 30 July trade deadline (click here.) Skubal to the O’s? Bring it on!)
As for the historical “Teams winning a 100 games in a season” look/see, I learned that it has happened much more often than I would have thought. This from Wiki:

The Yankees lead everyone with 21 100+ seasons followed by the Dodgers with 11 seasons. Speaking of the Dodgers, they are currently on a three-consecutive-year-run of 100+ wins in a season having done so in 21, 22, and 23. If they were to win 100 again this season they would be the first team to have done so in 4 consecutive years. Little trivia quiz for you – can you name the other MLB teams to have ever won 100+ games in three consecutive years? (Here’s a clue for you, in addition to the Dodgers with three straight 100 win seasons, I have already mentioned above two of the others. And yes the Orioles (69, 70 and 71) are one of them.
Unrelated to my trek here down “100 Games Lane,” a visit to Buzzy’s Country Store this past Saturday saw Eddie Green’s daughter Sarah, her son Yeatman and Mom Janice drop in to say hello. (There is a Eddie-baseball connection here as to why I thought of him just now and I will discuss that in a future Buzzyblog post.)
Here is a photo I took of Sarah and Yeatman. (Don’t think that I have ever met nor known anyone with the first or middle name Yeatman other than Eddie, his Dad and now his Grandson.)

I thanked them for stopping by, and told them how Eddie’s name comes up quite frequently as his Cousin Sonney Forrest and friend Robby Hall will often trade Eddie stories whenever we get together for lunch and do some reminiscing as us old farts are prone to do. I’m planning a future road trip up to Cheltenham to visit and say hello to Brother Eddie (click here for obit/article.)

Music-wise, I can never mention Eddie without thinking of him and the Cruisers (aka John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.)
