Dining Out in South County

This last weekend in July in South County lets you eat your way through it. We are very blessed to have several restaurants and dining venues to choose from in South County. Here is your weekend guide:

Sean Craig’s SALT Waterfront Kitchen continues to provide excellent food, priced reasonably in a great location on Smith Creek.

I was there just the other day for lunch and took this photo of an old Coke sign on one of their out buildings. I know, here I am doing a food-oriented Buzzyblog post and I’m showing you an old Coke sign photo. I couldn’t resist doing so. (Proves once again, you can take the boy out of the country store…..)

Set for this Saturday (11 am – 1 pm) is Pier 450’s “Chef Carlos Curating & Cooking Some Herbs.” It is always a special treat to dine at Peggy and Kathy’s Pier 450 and sample some of Carlos’ excellent fare so check it out. For more details on the Curating Herbs event (click here.) (Note for some of my 60’s friends that “curating herbs” may not be exactly what you are thinking or expecting.)

Saturday evening then, the Ridge American Legion Riders are hosting a Fish & Shrimp Dinner 5-6:30 pm. (Note that that 5 – 6:30 window gives you plenty of time to visit Buzzy’s Country Store for your pre or post dinner drinks.

Then come Sunday morning (1000-1130) you can breakfast with the animals at Historic St. Mary’s City. It is not something that has ever been on my list of to-do-dining experiences but hey, like John said “Whatever gets you thru…” (Song below.)

And speaking of dining out, our very own Courtney’s Restaurant made this list of the Ten Most Iconic Crab Houses in Maryland:

Excerpt follows:

I never thought of Courtney’s as feeling like “arriving at a daydream.” However, I do get what the author is trying to convey by writing that because visiting Julie and Tommy’s is definitely an experience. Their business model of “He catches it, she cooks it” is perfect when it comes to dining on fresh seafood.

OK, I quoted the boy so here he is. Only one problem I have with this tune has to do with him singing the line at the end of the third verse (2:00) “Don’t need a gun to blow your mind oh no, oh no.” Knowing how he went gotta here, I always pause and shake my head whenever I hear him singing “Don’t need a gun…”

That’s Bobby Keys ripping it on sax, Claus Voormann playing the hell out of bass guitar and some guy named Elton on piano and singing along with John.
