Busy Busy Weekend

Good news this morning is that my Grandson Shawn was allowed to take leave from Moody Air Force Base where he is stationed, and return home to Marathon, Florida to wait out the storm. With Hurricane Helene making landfall last night as a Cat 4 storm and continuing to head north towards Moody AFB and the Valdosta area, I am glad they let Shawn get outta there. I told Shawn that he may well be one of the first to have ever evacuated to the Keys during an ongoing Gulf/South Florida hurricane.

Meanwhile, back here in the County, all sorts of fall events are scheduled for this coming weekend. Mark your calendars and make a move to get out and enjoy this, the best time of the year (as long as no hurricanes are rolling in on us!)

In South County we’ve got St, Mary’s City with several events set for the weekend. To obtain more details on these events (click here.)

Regarding Matt Friend’s Friday night appearance at the Dodge Center on campus, Cathy and Peggy at Pier 450 have a nice pre-show dinner for you:

Then on Saturday, Pier 450 hosts a Dog Days event for you and your Rovers. And please, no jokes that 450 has gone to the dogs!

On Sunday, Pier 450 has a twofer in store with yoga in the a.m. and a Chef’s Tasting in the evening:

This Van tune always picks me up and gets me going when I’m feeling that low energy vibe on a gray and rainy day. When I first landed on this Jerry version of the tune, my initial thought was that Jerry had bluesed it out and took it down too much. Funny thing however, as I continue to get older, I now find this version is a little more to my liking than Van’s upbeat, rock n roll original. As you listen, be sure to check out how Jerry does his solo (2:06) and then turns it over to the keyboard fellas Bruce Hornsby and Melvin Seals to do theirs. Good stuff, so let’s enjoy it while we can.
