Anti-Rant (Bridges to Cross)

Thanksgiving Week so let’s be positive. Accordingly, check out this little video/anti-rant I made the other day heading down the road.

My first thought was “Why haven’t they used this previously?” But the more I thought about it, I recalled that years ago, they did do something similar on Indian Bridge Road. It brought back a funny memory for me.

As work was being performed on one of the bridges on Indian Bridge (and yes, there are a couple of bridges on Indian Bridge Road) a traffic light was installed on either side of the bridge similar to what I showed you in the video.

I was traveling thru that area and I caught the red light. Seeing that I was the first car in line waiting, I worried about oncoming traffic coming too fast over the bridge and not being careful as they did so. Thus, I did not pull all the way up to the designated stop line on my side of the bridge.

As I waited for the light to change, a dude in a pickup truck stopped behind me. After a moment, he then proceeded to pull around me and park directly in front of me as I waited. By doing so, he pissed me off enough that I then pulled around in front of him and once stopped, looked back in my rear view to see how he was reacting. Instead of glaring back at me, he looked away and avoided returning my stare down. I remember thinking at the time “Yeah, you know you shouldn’t have done that.”

The dumb thing about what I did however, was that by doing this leapfrogging of the pickup dude, now I really was parked sort of dangerously out in the work area reserved for the oncoming traffic. I sweated out the next minute or two but fortunately, nothing came along from the other way. The light turned green and the pickup dude and I continued on our way.

End of story, except for a day or two later the ex and I were traveling over Indian Bridge when we got the same red light in the work area. As I came to a stop and did my stop-a-little-before-the-designated-stopping-area-thing she inquired what I was doing. After I explained it to her, she then responded “Well, you’re going to be sitting awhile, because they have a sensor in the road up there that tells the light someone wants to get thru. Stopped back here, you are not activating the sensor.”

I recall laughing as I pulled up because I immediately realized that that is why the pickup fella had juked by me – so he could activate the road sensor that I wasn’t parked on. It also explained why he had avoided looking at my dumb ass because he knew I didn’t know what I was, or in this case, wasn’t doing!
