Sunday 50 Burger

OK, since I did so well with my college football predictions (thank you, once again Maryland) let’s go to the NFL today and see about getting even.

Driving down to Buzzy’s Country Store yesterday listening to 106.7 the Fan, I laughed along with Doc Walker discussing the Commanders-Cowboys tilt today. Doc said that he wanted nothing less than a “50 Burger” from the Commanders.

He went onto to explain how the Commanders are coming off of 20 years of worrying about the Cowboys and it is now time to start exacting some revenge by thoroughly kicking Jerry’s boys when they are down. Thus, Doc is calling for the Commanders to rack up 50+ points today against the Cowboys. (If you are curious, like I was, about the origins of the term “50 burger” there are a couple different theories out there: (click here) and/or (click here.) Too, I did stumble upon a comment that asked “Why is a hamburger called a hamburger when there is no ham in it?” Good question!)

The over/under i.e. total points scored in the game, for the Commanders/Cowboys is at 45.5. That leads me to taking Doc’s heed and bet the over. I did not see any prop bets on the Commanders scoring 50 or more. However there are props for 30+ and 40+ points, so let’s also bet that Doc is onto something here and that the Commanders can and will put up at least 30 today.

Commanders 10.5 Favorite, Moneyline (Outright Winner) Has Cowboys @ +440 and Commanders @ -600

Quick gambling tutorial for you – when you see a minus number as in -112 or -120 that means you are looking at the favorite and must bet that amount to win $100. Conversely, a plus figure means that if you bet $100 you win back your $100 along with the +figure. In the above prop bet for example, note that the 30+ points bet means you bet $120 to win a $100. But the 40+ points bet for $100 will win you your $100 back along with an additional $475.

Heard this song yesterday morning as I did my predictions about Indy and Maryland covering, but I’m not blaming Paul for my miscalls. I am thanking him though for putting this tune in my head and then humming it all day long. It was his goodbye tune to Linda and is a nice one to have rumbling around in your head as you go about your busy day:

Got the 1 o’clock game on at Buzzy’s, so stop in. Should the Commanders actually put up a 50 Burger on the Cowboys, we’ll have a little toast to them for doing so.
