The Commanders continue their amazing run later today against their Division rival the Philadelphia Eagles. Commanders have won 4 consecutive road games, and after defeating the Number 1 seed Detroit Lions are poised to head to New Orleans for the Super Bowl with a victory over the Eagles today.
I would say “Hail to the Commanders!” But it still doesn’t sound right does it? (Try singing it and you’ll see what I mean because that third Commanders’ syllable is a real choker.)
As for HTTR and how it came to be the Redskins’ fight song, there is some controversy over it music and the lyric-wise (click here.)
The original song, written by Redskins’ bandleader Barnee Breeskin, has been modified a couple of times. Note the “Scalp ’em, swamp ’em” verse (1:15 mark) along with the inclusion of the opening lick of Dixie near the song’s end (2:15) of this video:
Another little twist of fate (hate?) surrounding the song involves the formation of the Dallas Cowboys as an NFL team and Redskins’ owner Preston Marshall’s opposition to the idea:

Here is the latest version of HTTR. (I think it is anyway.)
As for today’s 3 p.m. game, which we will have on the big screen at Buzzy’s Country Store, I am betting the Commanders, but am taking them as the 6 underdogs in doing so. Overall, I think the Eagles luck out and win it by a field goal. There is this stat to consider:
Here is hoping that the Commanders become the 6th team to do so. HAIL TO THE WHATEVERS! (That doesn’t sound right either!)
P.S. The word police flagged me again:
