For some crazy reason, one is supposed to eat Black Eyed Peas today on New Year’s Day. It has something to do with having good luck in the coming year (click here for more info on how and why this became a thing.).
That mandate sent me looking for a recipe that may just make Black Eyed Peas something you perhaps actually want to eat.
I stumbled upon Ellynne Davis’ 2007 Enterprise article documenting Sharita Bolden’s suggestion for a Black Eyed Peas’ recipe as follows:

I then went looking for a New Year’s drink recipe by consulting some of Buzzy’s Drink Recipe books. Sure enough, I found all sorts of recipes for Egg Nog, Hot Toddy’s, Cosmopolitans, numerous Champagne and Holiday Punches etc.. However, none of them tickled my New Year’s fancy.
That said, the following “recipe” caught my eye, and intrigued me, even if it had nothing to do with alcohol:

As for translating the song’s title, there is this:

Other translations compare “mas que nada” to the “whatever” response said when you don’t really agree with someone, but just want them to shut up. Whatever!
