The Don Poe sign is up in Buzzy’s Country Store along with Mom and Dad.

And yes, for all it’s history and rep as being a redneck, somewhat rough and tumble kinda place, Buzzy’s still remains a Mom and Pop store.
For example, Kevin McKay told me a nice story about his son Cole being locked out of their house last Thursday afternoon and calling Kevin at work to come home to let him in. (Kevin works at Webster Field.) Cole told him to hurry because it was cold outside. Kevin told Cole that he would be there shortly.
A few minutes afterwards however, Cole called Kevin back and said “Never mind. I’m going to Buzzy’s for Hotdog Thursday and hang out there. Take your time.”
I like that Cole knew just where to go.
Music-wise, you may not know who Randy Crawford is, but you should recognize her voice from the Crusaders’ 70’s hit song Street Life. Here is another nice tune from her performing with Joe Sample. I heard it riding down to the Store on one of those freezing cold days last week and it put me in a whole different, melancholy frame of mind. Call it thoughts on a cold winter’s day. Be sure to catch the lyric (1:50) “Help me lose my soul in this song.”
