Who Doesn’t Like Great Sax?

Both our local NFL teams survived the Wild Card round this weekend so that’s pretty cool. On a musical note, the NFL and National Anthems were back in the news this weekend as a couple renditions created some churn as follows:

It started with the first playoff game Saturday and generated the following:

But in the second Saturday game, there was this clickbait headline that made you think something was controversial about the Maryland lady’s performance. As you can hear, it was just a great version of it from her. (Again her video is in the linked article.)

Then on Sunday, the Denver/Buffalo game created some mixed emotions with various folks complaining about “vocal showcasing” (which I think means over singing.) Again, the video is embedded in the following link for you to make your decision.

But the best version over the weekend may have just been the one with no singer and that was the one played prior to the Eagles/Packers’ game. It was so good that it prompted one commentator to say “The eagle landing was great but who doesn’t like great sax?” (Be sure to catch the eagle landing at the 1:12 mark.)

Not everyone was impressed with an instrumental version of our Anthem however. This was posted:

I liked the eagle-sax version and have it right up there with Jimi’s Woodstock take. Still gives me chills every time I hear/see him play it (below.) P.S. To catch Jimi continuing into Purple Haze, which he immediately slid into following the Anthem’s ending (click here.)
