As Duncan did some repair work on Buzzy’s Country Store front porch deck, he and I discussed re-doing the deck completely. Thru the years we have had this conversation more than a couple of times.
I had previously told Duncan that replacing the Buzzy deck was a low-pri project and that he could take his time getting around to it. The other day however, as Duncan administered this latest stop gap round of repairs to the Buzzy deck, we both concluded that it really is time to replace this old boy that Mike Fenhagen first built back in the 80’s around the time of the Store’s fire.

And as Duncan and I discussed this effort, guess what subject popped back up? (And no, it wasn’t the fact that the old deck and I have alot in common in that we are both gradually falling apart! Although there IS some validity in that comparison.)
Duncan asked if I still wanted to keep the old walnut tree and build around it. I said yes, but then caught myself starting to second guess that decision again. (For previous Buzzyblog post on whether or not to keep the walnut tree (click here.) I even once held a poll with my Buzzy folks and friends voting whether or not to remove the old tree that I nicknamed Wally (click here.))
Now, here I am once again mulling over the walnut tree’s fate that I hold in my hand. It made me wonder if some Higher Power doesn’t do this same kind of calculus on all of us as in – should I let him hang around awhile longer or just take him out now?
However, with me regarding the tree as a kindred spirit of sorts, the decision was easy this time around: tree stays and Duncan will work around it in reconstructing the Buzzy deck. Sometimes we can allow decisions to become tougher than they need to be.
I just noticed that it is 3 a.m. as I write this, and of course the following tune came to mind. Supposedly Rob wrote it about taking care of his Mom when she had cancer (click here for that explanation.) Thought of you Reagan!
However, the official video takes things in a WTF totally different direction such that I am not sure I get it at all. See what you think. If you can splain it to me, I got your beer.
