This past weekend was a good one business-wise in Buzzy’s Country Store as the nice weather always brings folks out and about. The weather was so cooperative that I made my first two bait “sales” of the year. Note that I have sales in quotes because one of them was not exactly a sale. Here is that explanation.
The gentleman shown below is smiling mostly because I did not charge him. When he placed the package of squid on the counter, I informed him that “My old man always said that the first bait request of the year was always a good sign that the tourist season has officially commenced. So to commemorate that, no charge.” He thanked me and as he walked away I followed up with “You’re probably not going to catch anything anyway, so this way you won’t be pissed at me for charging you.” That’s when I caught him laughing here.

A short time afterwards, a couple of Hispanic fellas came in and began sorting through my bait case by the front door. Despite my understanding little, if anything, of what they were saying, I could tell that they were looking for bloodworms. I asked them “Gusanos de Sangre?” They said “Si” and I said “No. Lambriz gusanos.” It was their turn to say Si and I grabbed a box of night crawlers out of the fridge for them. They paid and as I put their peso’s in the Buzzy cash register drawer thought “Got my Twofer Tuesday.”
P.S. Those were the only two bait requests all weekend.
Heard the following tune on the country music channel the other day and thanks to Shazam learned that it was by Kelsea Ballerini:
April Buzzy birthday celebrants include Bertie Taylor and Kevin McKay on the 3rd, Butch Wood 16th, Pat Adams 17th, Jack Flatly 23rd, Jack Wise 25th and Jay Ripson the 27th.
My immediate family April birthdays include – son Shea on the 7th, great niece Rilynn Taylor 18th, grandson Blaise on 20 April, stepson Shaun ODell the 21st, daughter-in-law Caitie 24th, and my great nephew Emerson Taylor on the 28th. (Note that it was Emerson who first made me “Great.” Since him, I have notched several other great nieces and nephews, but it was Emerson who first made me great.) And speaking of great, to close out a month of very special occasions, my wife Pam will celebrate her birthday on the 29th.
(Little aside here on the subject of marrying up: I heard a sports radio talking head discuss marrying up as “He out kicked his coverage.” For us sports nuts, we understand that kind of analogy.)
Also in April, Wedding Anniversaries for my two sons who also married up/outkicked the coverage: Stephanie and Shea celebrate their wedding anniversary on the 8th. Later in the month Caitie and Brady celebrate their wedding anniversary on the 27th.
And another April wedding anniversary crossed my mind the other day when I mentioned Millie and Dictator having been married 75 years. It made me think that on April 9th 1950 my folks were married in San Antonio, Texas 75 years ago.
