White or Yellow?

That time of year when visitors hit Trossbach’s Produce Stand.

When they stop in Buzzy’s and I ask what they were up to, my followup question to them is “Yellow or white?” The savvy ones (usually the women) seem to know immediately what I am referring to and answer accordingly.

It came as no surprise to me that most of them usually answered “White.” It was no surprise because I know that the folks making a special trip down to Trossbach’s usually are on a mission looking for the white peaches. Yellow ones I guess you can get anywhere, but the whites you got to search out.

Found this discussion on the differences between the two:

Also, I landed on this 1988 Enterprise photo of Linwood Trossbach the patriarch of the produce stand. Note the several baskets of peaches atop his stand.

Trossbach’s Produce Stand is now open seven days a week. For more info (click here.)

As I am sure you saw coming, music-wise there is only 1 rock and roll peach album to be referenced here:

There are several great tunes on Eat a Peach, including my favorite AB tune Melissa. However, check out Blue Sky one of the last songs Duane recorded with them before he died in a motor cycle accident. The following is a live version that they did in September 71 one month before recording it for Eat a Peach. Duane died on October 29, 1971. (Suggestion for you – get another cup of coffee, sit back, relax and parachute in at the 1:55 mark to enjoy just maybe the best and greatest 8-9 minutes of guitar soloing ever. It will put a smile on your face and in your heart – I gar-on-tee it!

And since it is a Twofer Tuesday and I don’t want you thinking that I am talking too much about “whites” here, let’s also roll with something from Peaches and Herb. Here is the original Peaches whose real name was Francine Barker. (Turns out that there were a couple different Peaches through the years.) However, there was only one Herb and he eventually left the music business to become a DC cop/security guard (click here.). Goes to prove that not only is love sometimes strange, but life has its quirky ways too!
