St. Mary’s County Historical Society held its Spring meeting/dinner last week and featured speaker Carol Booker who has written a book The Farmer’s Wife about a gruesome murder that occurred in 1877 in Friendship, Maryland. Thanks to the efforts of Executive Director Peter LaPorte and You Tube, you can watch her talk (click here.) However, be forewarned that while her talk is full of very interesting anecdotes and insights, Carol does not give away how the trial of the farmer actually ended. You will have to read her book to find out. (I am tempted to make some joke about there not being a happy ending, but you can draw your own conclusions once you watch her video.)
No happy ending jokes, but I will do a Buzzy version of a pop ad here and encourage you to consider joining us as members of the Historical Society. It is great organization to be a member of and best of all, no one bugs you to do any volunteer work on its behalf. (That works out well, because the majority of us are not able to do much to begin with!)
From the Historical Society web page here is some info on the benefits of becoming a member and how you can do so.

Note that your membership includes receiving the quarterly editions of “The Chronicles of St. Mary’s” which contain excellent articles about historical people, places and events here in the County. Tomorrow, on the Buzzyblog I will talk some more about “The Chronicles” in general and specifically about a couple of recent articles done by my friends Pat Woodburn and Jason Babcock.)
Speaking of a happy ending, the big winner at last night’s Tony Awards was the musical “Maybe Happy Ending.”
