Stine’s Store

When I first saw this old photo of Stine’s Store on the “I Grew Up in Maryland” FB page (click here) I thought that someone had taken a photo of Buzzy’s Country Store and photoshopped it with the sign stating “Stine’s Store.” (Yeah, try saying that 3 times in row real fast.)

However, upon closer review, I noticed the differences between Stine’s and Buzzy’s.  I then decided to followup and learn more about Stine’s Store.

The photo was from a FB entry by Wes Ponder who was pondering this:

Wes received over 100 comments. Here are some that I copied to give you an idea of where Stine’s is located, who owned it and its status today as a private residence.

Pam and I were heading over to Fredericksburg yesterday to visit my Cousin Joe White. On the way up Rt. 234, I detoured down Stine’s Store Road to check out the old store and took this photo of it:

Located in Newport, Md. A Few Miles South of Allens Fresh

I was hoping to see either Tom or Nellie Stine out and about and stop and talk to them about what it is like living in a converted country store. However, they weren’t around for me to do so. Maybe next time I can catch up with them.

Note that the FB site “I Grew Up in Maryland” is pretty good with lots of photos and comments on living in Maryland. If you would like to check it out further, here is the link I grew up in Maryland | Facebook.

I was listening to Sirius’ reggae channel the other day when this upbeat little tune caught my ear. It was right on time when I heard it because I was thinking about the Ravens’ lousy finish, Maryland men’s basketball Terps team stinking it up all over the place and baseball still a couple of months away. Hearing this tune, Give It All You Got, immediately changed my mood and helped me to re-focus. Nothing like a tune to wash away your winter blues!
