Twofer Tuesday – Mashups

In the almost 20 years of mentioning different genres of music here on the Buzzyblog, I have never mentioned nor embedded any music mashups. For those of you not familiar with this musical niche, it involves taking two songs and intertwining them to create what is referred to as a mashup. (For a listing of notable mashups (click here.)

Given that it is a Twofer Tuesday then, check out these two mashup examples, one old and one new, and see what you think. The first mashup, the old one, features a couple of songs that you will know and recognize immediately:

This second mashup, the new one just released officially, pairs the Stones’ Satisfaction with Root Boy’s Rockafella Skank. I know that it sounds like a stretch, but “check it out now” and you will hear Root Boy’s tune dovetailing very nicely with Keith and Mick’s magnum opus. The AI-generated video is pretty good too. Be sure to hang til the 1:05 mark to catch Mick appearing to sing “Right about now, the funk soul brother.” Too funny.)

If you care to listen to Fat Boy’s original Rockafella Skank by itself (click here.) Note that the video for that one is pretty good too. As for Satisfaction, I am guessing that you already have a fairly good idea how it goes.

Wiki had this to say about the mashing of these two tunes:

Comments about the Satisfaction Skank mashup were mixed. Most were complimentary such as these samples:

On the other hand, based on the number of “Likes” that these comments received, others were not so fond of it:

Personally, I like mashups. However, that may be because I am the owner of a mashup business – a country store interspersed with a bar! And please allow me to add that I do get a lot of satisfaction out of that!
