Cher’s tune Believe was the first to use the Auto-Tune which electronically altered her voice (click here.) Hence, the technique is dubbed the “Cher effect.” “Believe” was nominated for Record of the Year at the 2000 Grammy’s Awards but lost out to “Smooth” featuring Rob Thomas and some guitarist named Santana.

However, “Believe” won the Grammy for Best Dance Song. Turns out that it was Cher’s first and only Grammy she ever received. “Believe” was also her last Top Ten hit to date. Note that I said “to date” because I gotta believe she’s still got one or two more hits in her.
