I have not talked any baseball yet this season. However, since MLB is at its 1/3 mark with most teams having played approximately 54 of their 162 games for the season, today I will just briefly touch on the boys of summer.
Our two local teams have had some rather mixed results with the Nationals playing well and currently in second place in the NL East. They are 29-27 overall, currently on a 4 game win streak and have been a very nice surprise this year. Go Nats!
The Orioles on the other hand have been very frustratingly inconsistent. They are currently 25-30, 4th in the AL East and 10.5 games behind the first place Rays. Injuries to their pitching staff (again!) and slow starts by several of their go-to guys have made the Birds a challenge to watch and root for.
The good news is that the entire AL is very mediocre this year with only 3 teams currently above 500 – the Rays, Yankees and Guardians. (The bad news about that stat is that 2 of those 3 teams play in the Orioles’ division.)

Brady and I saw the Orioles defeat the Yankees 7-0 two weeks ago and since then they have showed some signs of life (despite being swept by the Rays last week.) As noted, they are consistently inconsistent.
All that said, hope does spring eternal because as poorly as the Orioles have played thus far, they are only 2 games behind in the AL wild card race. And it is a long season – maybe too long.
Since I mentioned it, guess I should pass along Don’s solo effort he did without his bird mates. Contains the classic line (3:05) “I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac, a little voice inside my head said don’t look back, you can never look back.” Satchel couldn’t have said it any better!
