Twofer Tuesday and I have two examples of some hotel room number trivia for you.

I saw something about how Room 217 in Stephen King’s original novel became Room 237 in the movie The Shining (click here.)

The classic movie was filmed in Oregon’s Timberline Hotel whose management worried that no one would ever want to check in to Room 217 after seeing the movie. They insisted that the room number be changed to Room 237. But guess what happened?

It reminded me of my checking into the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater, Florida years ago. As I did so, the clerk advised me “We have Room 538 available and it is only $40 more.” When I asked what was so great about Room 538 she responded “That’s the Jim Bakker and Jessica Hawn room.”

Proving the old maxim that “Sex sells,” Sheraton was profiting on the room after Bakker and Hawn’s had their famous tryst (or whatever) there (click here.) Morals aside, the Buzzy in me was not up for wasting $40 extra for something that I wasn’t particularly interested in in the first place. Accordingly, I declined the offer. Now if Babe Ruth had stayed in that room getting it on with some hot patootie I might have considered it.
