Beale Tilton dropped by Buzzy’s Country Store and discussed the formation back in 1957 of the St. Mary’s Boat Club. He noted that the initial intent of the club’s organizers was to try and fight the DNR/Annapolis-driven proposed legislation to register all boats. Beale said that while that may have been the goal of the club’s organizers, the rest of the club’s members just wanted to get together and race their boats.
The races used to be held on Sunday afternoons at various spots around the County. Beale noted that later on the club expanded to include folks from Calvert, Charles and Anne Arundel Counties and became the Southern Maryland Boat Club. Here’s a website with additional info click here
