Article in yesterday’s Washington Post (excerpt above) discussed the lack of public access to the Chesapeake Bay. Only 2% of approximately 12,000 miles of shoreline are open to the general public.
In St. Mary’s County, we are fortunate that we have two areas, Elms Beach and Pt. Lookout State Park, where folks can enjoy the Bay albeit for a fee. (If you have access to Pax River, their Gold Coast Beach on the Bay makes for a third place to enjoy the Bay.) Calvert County is also fortunate in that they have Bay access at their Flag Ponds and Calvert Cliffs Parks along with access at North and Chesapeake Beaches. Makes you appreciate what we have here on the Bay.
