San Fran Pt. 2

To complete my San Fran download, here are a couple of photo’s I grabbed while tooling around and above the Bay area.  Brady and I took a helicopter tour of the city.  Won’t bore you with the usual scenic shots that you always see of the city’s landscape.  However I do have one that I wanted to pass along – the view of the Golden Gate Bridge from a helicopter flying underneath it.  When the pilot asked if we’d like to fly under it, my first thought was that he was kidding around.  Then we actually did so.

Back down on some terra firma, we wandered around Fisherman’s Wharf and spied this little docking place where I grabbed this shot.  Photo is “untouched” i.e. no Photoshop effects, and everything was just that sharp and colorful.

And speaking of the Wharf, here’s the obligatory shot of the sea lions at Pier 39 wondering what’s wrong with all of those tourists standing around watching them sleep and goof off.

However, the one that caught my eye was this guy who just wanted to be by himself.  He reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from Thoreau “I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself than be crowded on a velvet cushion. “

Interesting story as to how the sea lions came to reside at the pier.  For more info  click here.

And speaking of quotes, we heard the following said at least two or three times “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco” attributed to Mark Twain.  Funny thing though, the Snopes folks say it’s not true that Twain said it (click here.)  Makes a good story though.

Enough on “how I spent my weekend.”  Tomorrow I’ll return to the Buzzyblog mainstays of booze, music and all things Country Store.   If nothing else, travel does get you out of your routines.

Usually I’d conclude with a related song/video but won’t do so today because the two obvious ones are ones I really hate: Tony Bennett’s heart crapola and the Scott Mckenzie’s wretched “If You’re Going to San Francisco Wear Some Flowers.”  Maybe someone needs to write a good song about those sea lions.
