Following a Costco run the other day, Pam and I ventured down to Pope’s Creek for lunch at Capt. Billy’s. Haven’t been there in several years but pleased to report that Capt. Billy’s, like Buzzy’s Country Store, is still the same after all these years. This is from their website (click here.)
Although I never visited there back when Capt. Billy was doing his thing greeting customers and friends, he sounded a little like Bugs Evans. Remember Bugs sitting there at the door of his place greeting folks and saying to them “Just sit anywhere you want”? (If you haven’t, check out this Evans Employees FB site click here for a walk down memory lane.)
Seeing Capt. Billy’s and thinking about the Evans Seafood Restaurant of yore made me wonder “Why don’t we have a crabhouse like that in St. Mary’s?” Seabreeze and Sandgates are about as close to it as you get but other than those, we don’t gave any good old fashioned crab places like Capt. Billy’s is and Evans used to be. Tourists ask me all the time in the Store “Where’s a crabhouse where we can sit down and get some crabs.” I send them to Tommy’s but when they say “crab house” I’m sure that they are thinking of someplace like Capt. Billy’s.
