Coming to America

Since I laid a not-too-upbeat-visitor-related-murder-story on you yesterday, how about today we take a sad song and make it better as I tell you about some other recent visitors to Buzzy’s Country Store?
Last Thursday I had a British couple in the Store who had travelled over here from Manchester, England to do what they referred to as their Chesapeake Bay vacation.  Several years ago the British fella had spent some time working here in the States with the coal industry folks in West Virginia.  Back then he had made a visit over to the Eastern Shore and liked it.  After he returned to England, through the years he and his wife would make several return trips to tour “the States” as they refer to us and visited places like New England, New York City, the Grand Canyon, San Francisco etc..  However, this time they wanted to see and be on the Chesapeake Bay.

Their itinerary included staying in one of Peggy’s places in RoDo Beach for several days before

driving over to Richmond for a couple days, then down to Norfolk for a few days, over the Bay Bridge tunnel, and staying on the Eastern Shore for a couple days before driving back to Dulles to return to England.

While here in the County they had visited Leonardtown and Solomons Island.  Friday they planned to see St. Mary’s City and St. Clements Island.  They had purposely scheduled their trip to be able to attend this year’s Oyster Festival on Saturday before they left Sunday to drive over to Richmond.

They both had enjoyed themselves so far and of course I was very honored that Buzzy’s Country Store was also on their list of places to see.

Funny isn’t it how we who live here take all of this for granted and yet there are folks who travel round the world just to experience what we have everyday.

Here’s the latest tourism release to give you some idea what’s up.  (Includes discussion of new road to Pt. Lookout.)
