The answer is Spellchecker.
Whenever I mention the word “Buzzyblog” in an email to someone, spellchecker will pop up and suggest that I change it to Byblos.
Usually this annoys me as I hit ignore and move on. Each time it occurs though, I think that perhaps I should add “Buzzyblog” to my list of ok words to use but since I’m too lazy to do that, Byblos always pops up.
But just yesterday when it happened again and I hit ignore again, it got me wondering – who or what the hell is Byblos? So instead of spending the time to add Buzzyblog to my spellchecker list of approved words, I spent time finding out about Byblos.
Thanks to the Wiki folks I learned that it is a seaport town in Lebanon that some say is the oldest inhabited city (click here.)
Another Wiki fact noted that
The name Byblos is Greek (Greek: Βύβλος). Papyrus received its early Greek name (byblos, byblinos) from its being exported to the Aegean through Byblos, and the Greek words biblion, plural biblia, and ultimately the word “Bible” (“the (papyrus) book”) are traced to that name.
So, there you have the Buzzy-Lebanon-Bible connection albeit in a Kevin Bacon 6 Degrees kind of way. For me personally, I’m glad to have stumbled upon this useless bit of trivia because prior to this the only association with Lebanon for me was the Lebanese hash that I “encountered” when I was in the Army stationed in Germany. Lebanese red and Lebanese blonde were two types of very potent hashish available and each would knock you on your buttocks. (Wonder why spellchecker doesn’t recommend buttocks as a substitute for Buzzyblog?)
