Blarney Stone

On what was to be our last overseas trip, Buzzy and I visited Ireland.  We toured all around the country including a stop in Northern Ireland’s Derry which I’ve discussed before (click here.)

This all came to mind the other day when I found this Blarney Luckstone which Buzzy had purchased when we were there at the Blarney Castle.  I remember him buying it and being a little surprised that he actually did so.  Seemed like a lot of money for a little rock that despite what they claimed as being “an authentic piece from the same quarry that the Blarney Castle was quarried” I had my doubts.  I tried to talk Buzzy out of buying it.  His take was “What the hell, it’ll be something worth having as a momento.”  Of course, he was right and now I’m glad that he didn’t listen to me and did buy it.

The whole kissing the Blarney Stone thing though is a bit of an adventure in that you have to lie down and slide backwards down the side of the castle to actually kiss it.  I debated doing it because I knew darn well that even if I went thru all that trouble to wiggle my way down there, I wasn’t about to put my lips on some stupid stone that a million other misbegot tourists had already slobbered on.  When Buzzy and I visited Bethlehem years before and had the opportunity to kiss the feet of the baby Jesus statue at His birthplace, I air kissed that too.  Thus, if I air kissed the Savior’s feet, I damn sure wasn’t going to kiss the Blarney Stone.

Then there’s this video song worth watching if no other reason than to check out the dog’s appearance at 0:33 mark and to hear the lyric “cunning linguist.”
