What’s Better – Book or Movie?

My previous post titled Gone Too Soon made me think of the movie Gone Girl which I caught a couple weeks back.  Even a few weeks after seeing the movie, I find myself at times still thinking about what a weird/great movie it was.  One bedroom scene in particular stands out and believe me it’s not THAT kind of bedroom scene that you are thinking I’m talking about.

When discussing it with my movie critic daughter Reagan, she compared it to the book.  It almost made me want to read the book, something I rarely, if ever do once I’ve seen the movie version.  I figure that seeing the film in some ways ruins the pleasure of reading the book.  If I haven’t read the book before I see the movie, I generally don’t read it after seeing it.

Conversely however, there  have been several books I’ve read that I couldn’t wait to see made into a movie.  To name a few off the top of my head Forrest Gump, High Fidelity, General’s Daughter, and all of the Tom Clancy books.   (Quick aside here on Forest Gump, the book was very different than the movie which some critic wrote resembled more of a Republican-produced documentary (click here.)  Forrest was much more of a rock n roller in the book than the movie’s All American depiction of him.)
