Calvin Coolidge is known as “Silent Cal” because of his tendency to not say much. Famous story about him involves a young woman seated next to him at a dinner telling him “I have a bet with my friends that I can get you to say more than three words.” To which he replied “You lose.”
However, I believe that Cal should have been known as “Country Store Cal” because of how a country store factored into his background and eventual swearing in as our 30th President. (Found these excerpts from a blogsite (click here) that explains the store connection:)
Calvin Coolidge was the only President to have ever been sworn into office by his father. I’ll bet too that he is the only President to have ever had such a country store connection.
