Flashback Friday: Time Will Tell

Timing it with the first of July, I was considering a post here on how 2015 is already one half over.  I was going to wish you a Happy Half a Year To Go and then discuss how time seems to fly by.  My Grandmother Miss Hattie used to say that the days and weeks are long but the months and years are fast and that sure does seem true.

I kind of had it semi-mapped out in my head what I wanted to try and say but then Mike Raley, Pam and I went to John Fogerty’s concert the other night at Wolf Trap.  Fogerty threw me a curve ball with something he said in his between-songs-chit-chats.  He discussed how he and Creedence back in 1969 were flying around the country touring and doing shows and it was all very exciting. He said it was quite the contrast to life as you get older where you have your birthday and Christmas and the rest of it is just your same old daily routine.

Made me stop and think that that’s a little sad isn’t it – that there are only 2 days in the year that stand out for most people?  Hells bells, I still enjoy my birthday but I’m not so sure anymore that Christmas is a move-the-needle day for me.  I may be down to only one day a year!

Fogerty’s comment then reminded me of something I once heard or read about the passage of time: a way to try and slow it down is to avoid or break your routines (click here)  and strive to lead an event-filled life.  In other words, being busy helps to slow you down.  (See? I told you that Fogerty took me to a weird place with his comment.)

And speaking of the philosophy of time, I recall some class discussion about there being two types of time.  Wish that I had paid more attention to the professor’s explanation of the issue, because I didn’t get it then and I still don’t get it now:

But Kenny has a more straight forward take on it all:

If you can find the time to do so, swing by Buzzy’s Country Store later and we will have a toast to the rest of 2015. Careful, it’ll be over before you know it.
