Angela Davis will be speaking at St Mary’s College next Thursday at 4 o’clock. I’m thinking that I’ll talk the Buzzy 4 O’clock Club into dropping in there to check her out. Funny thought right? Maybe they can perform “Sweet Black Angel” with Charlie playing the maracas and Capt. Jerry singing lead.
Stones did this song about Angela that was considered to be very supportive of her and her cause. However, with Mick dropping the line “Ten little niggas sitting on de wall” (1:07 mark) doubt that you will ever hear them perform it live anytime soon. They couldn’t get away with that now could they?
It is a little like the case with their Some Girls tune. When they do perform it now, they no longer include the line about “Black girls just want to …” (2:45 mark:”)
But back to Angela. When I was in the Army stationed in Germany I had a poster of her taped up on my locker. I wasn’t really too sure what she was all about but I always had a thing for gap toothed girls so I put her poster up. Couldn’t really recall which one it was however, but I think she had her fist up in the air. May just have to drop into the College Thursday and grab my own photo of her.
