Looking Back – 1979

Tired of Christmas music, hey I did a couple days non-stop before it all started to grate on my ears, I put the old XM dial on the 70’s.  For some reason, I guess probably because disco music is so reviled, folks tend to put the 70’s down as one of the worst decades for music.

However, whenever I’m in the Store and want to listen to something different other than Classic/Deep Tracks Rock, I will put on the 70’s and find that it’s not too bad.

Yesterday, XM replayed Casey Casem’s top songs of 1979 and it was pretty good even if My Sharona was the number one record of the year. Here’s a quick review of some of the tunes that Casey featured. Olivia Newton seen here is at the 5:40 for those of you who want it quick.
Lots of one hitters in the collection but still some great songs.  Being a sucker for a falsetto, I always liked that schmaltzy Robert John Sad Eyes song (3:01 mark.)

Another great song favorite of mine was this one by Nicolette Larson who I always liked. Wondering what ever became of her I was sadden to learn that she died at the age of 45 (click here.)
