Bud’s full name was Joseph W. Ridgell. With my name as Joseph S. Ridgell, thru the years we would get each other’s mail as well as run into other mistaken identity instances.
For example, I was in the Doctor’s office one day when Bud came in, signed the sign in sheet and then pulled up a seat next to me and we began talking. He noted that he didn’t think that he had an appointment but the Doctor’s office had called him and told him to be there at 10 o’clock.
As he said that, the receptionist came out from behind her desk to ask us “Which one of you is Joseph S.?” I answered that it was me and she then looked at Bud and said “There has been a mistake, you do not have an appointment today.” Bud immediately shot back “I knew damn well I didn’t until you all called me and said I did!” The receptionist followed up by saying that she would try to work him in if he didn’t mind waiting. Bud replied “Hell no. I’m not waiting because I didn’t want to come here in the first place.” With that he got up to leave and said to me as he walked out “I’m going down to your old man’s place and have a drink.”
