BWP (Not the Balto-Wash Parkway)

Shea’s reference to the Blair Witch territory (previous post) got me wondering just where all that took place.  Turns out that the Blair Witch Project was not filmed in Carroll County where Shawn’s camp was held, but in Burkittsville, Frederick County and Seneca Creek State Park, Montgomery County.  Even though the story of the witch is sited in Burkittsville, most of the filming took place in Seneca Creek.

Coming up on its 20 year anniversary since being released in 1999, The Blair Witch Project has grossed over $250M after having been made for approximately $60,000.  (I’d do the math on the ROI but suffice to say that it’s a lot.  The movie often lands in the listings of most profitable movies ever made (click here.)

As for how the residents of Burkittsville handled their claim to fame, it did not go too well for them as told in this story (click here.)  Sequels to the original movie did not do well either leading me to wonder if there isn’t a curse of the Blair Witch going on.

Regarding the original movie, to be honest, I have never really sat and watched the entire movie.  I’ve seen enough of it to get the gist but to me it was just a little too hokey and too much b.s. to make me want to stay with it.  Too, I am not a big horror movie fan to begin with and Blair Witch was just a little more than I wanted to deal with.

I found this video that does a pretty good job of telling you about the movie and pointing out some of what is wrong with it:
