Lots of churn (click here) over how Phil Spector took this Paul McCartney song and added all the strings and big band sound to it. I recall another critic once noting that Spector took a very nice, rather simple tune and made it sound like a funeral song. That may have had something to do with my mixed emotions about it too because I like my music upbeat. Accordingly, this is not one of my favorite Beatles’ tunes.
And yet, I still hear it running through my mind whenever I need a song to get me thru some not-so-good days such as today when we bury my Mom.
