Ah yes, December, sort of like that crazy relative of yours who likes to laugh, joke and party and who may be fun to be around for awhile, but is also obnoxious as hell and drives you slowly crazy. December makes me think of that individual.
As said, it is a rather fun month, what with the holidays and happy times, lights and decorating, partying and gift giving and did someone say drinking?! I won’t go as far as saying that it is the most wonderful time of the year, but it sometimes can be the funest time of the year.
Ultimately though, and this may be an age thing, December reminds me of Lou Reed walking around on the wild side with the colored girls in the background going do-do-do, do-do-do, do-do-do. Bottom line, it’s all too much and can leave one begging for the New Year to please get here as soon as it can and put December’s bleary mess of a month behind us.
Do I sound like a curmudgeon? Bob Mann relates a funny story about Tommy Courtney telling him that someone had called him (Tommy) a curmudgeon. Tommy says to Bob “I don’t even know what a curmudgeon is.” The next day however, Tommy tells Bob “I looked curmdudgeon up in the dictiomary last night and you know what? I am a curmudgeon.” (In case you are wondering what Tommy may have read, here is one definition:)
But speaking of fun times, and not necessarily curmudgeons, (well maybe one or two among the following) the month of December celebrates several birthdays in the extended Buzzy family: Bruce Henry on the 2nd; my Brother in-law Jerry Taylor on the 7th; Jason Aldridge also on the 7th; Greg Madjeski 10th; Jimmy Cullison and Steve Raley 16th; Jerry Kiger and Mike Fenhagen 18th; Pat Birmingham 23rd; Josh Ridgell 24th; BJ Gray 27th; Brian Barnhill 28th; and Bill Holmes the 29th. Also, don’t forget the Buzzy Christmas Party is set for Saturday the 18th.
The Lou Reed reference above may not have made much sense for you, but it does give me an excuse to play his Christmas-related tune for you:
